We Are FLOEMA
Eradicating Microbial Agents to Save Florida Citrus
Our Mission
To decrease the citrus greening bacteria present in Florida’s trees. Using an antimicrobial peptide cocktail, we can save the trees that are currently suffering and win the fight against super bacteria.
Greening History
Greening was first discovered in Florida in 2005 but was present in Asia long before then.
The Citrus Psyllid
Greening bacteria is brought from tree to tree by the Asian citrus Psyllid a bug the size of a grain of rice. When feeding on the trees the psyllid ingests the bacteria and stores it in its gut, until it finds another tree to feed on.
A Farmers Nightmare
Florida Citrus farmers have been hit with devastation after devastation in form of hurricane, freezes, and disease. But none, have compared to the impact greening has done to the groves.
Need For a Cure
With multi-billion dollars at stake, the Florida farmers needed a solution they can implement on their current trees. The farmers cannot afford to plant any new resistant trees, rather they need to treat the trees they currently have.
