Through microscopy, we observed the growth patterns and activities of the 3 algae cultured within our lab. During the 5 month period of observation, qualities such as concentrations, interactions. swimming patterns, and abnormalities were recorded.
Symbiodinium Microadriaticum Swimming Patterns
Non-Patterned Swimming
Swim freely around in a fish-like pattern. Usually only a few swim in this manner but it is common to see at least 1-5 swimming like this in a drop.
Spinning in Place
Some of the Symiodinium may tend to slow down and begin spinning in place when viewed under a microscope for an extended period of time.
Predator-Prey culture of O. marina fed 2.0 mL of D. tertiolecta. The O. marina culture that was fed 2.0 mL of D. tertiolecta was not fed since 9/18/19. The video depicts the concentration of in the Dunaliella vs. Oxyrrhis as of 10/18/19.
