Synthetic Biology Seminar

dr. ZiskeMaritska, M.Si., Med, helped us to become one of the speakers in our seminar, educatedthe participants aboutIntroduction to Synthetic Biology. She gave us an information about how to do some synthetic biology. Although the participants not only from medical students, but they very serious to know about synthetic biology. Because, this seminar gave them a new knowledge that has never been heard before.

dr. Joni Anwar, Sp. P, a Pulmonologist who has helped us to become one of the speakers in our seminar, who has given us some of his knowledge from his field. He gave us an urgent information about lung cancer especially in Indonesia. One of the information is lung cancer became the third cause of death in Indonesia. Other information is sometimes Indonesia people find it difficult to know the initial symptoms of lung cancer, they usually come to hospital when lung cancer has spread to other areas of the body. At the end, he gave a little suggestion that lung cancer can be prevented by stopping smoking, using complete personal protection while working in factory, and do some exercise.

Campaign

This campaign was carried out in one of our parks in Palembang, namely the kambang iwak park. Around 50 people of various ages and levels of education who were in the park participated in this campaign. The campaign began by asking about lung cancer and its risk factors to find out how people's knowledge about lung cancer. After that we share information about what lung cancer is, how to reduce the risk factors and how important it is to do early detection if there are symptoms. Positive response is given from the community. We also share knowledge about the projects we are working on, which are expected to help create an easy, inexpensive and fast diagnostic tool for lung cancer. After this campaign they become more aware of the dangers of lung cancer, how to prevent and the importance of early detection of this disease.
