We try to make biological science knowledge more accessible to the public, so at first we actively
find ways to connect with the surrounding communities, that’s not very easy to us Chinese.
Fortunately, on April 7, we made our first contact with the community named “Vanke ll”.
It was our first time in the community. It was a trial. And then we'll explore new ways to get more
people involved and learned something.

Kindergarten

On 6th June, in order to popularize the knowledge of synthetic biology, we team JiangnanU China
focuses on children first, and we went to the TianEHu kindergarten to teach and promote the concept
about biology.
Process
With the help of teachers, we started by playing a video to show the phage infection process and then
asked kids a few questions. To our surprise, these kids were so brilliant that continually raised their
hands to answer them, which showed a great interest in biology. Afterwards, we leaded them to draw
pictures on the bacteria and phages. It came out that the kids were also very imaginative and smart and
what they drew can vividly depict the appearance of them. After that, we prepared some puzzles with the
graphics of phages and helped them finish doing the puzzle. During the process, the kids showed great
team spirit, for example they worked together to recognize quickly which piece is the head or the tail
of phages. Moreover, that their love for biology makes us feel that our project is really meaningful and
the synthetic biology would be known by more individuals.
