Our 2018-2019 team started out with minimal to no experience in synthetic biology, but through iGEM, we have gained a deeper understanding for the capabilities of this field. We began funding and researching our project in January, and started our lab work and project work in mid-June.
Every team member has unique capabilities, and together, we were all able to meaningfully contribute to each part of our project, including human practices, collaboration, lab work, and website coding - making this a wholly collaborative and cooperative effort!
A special thank you to Dr. Qi Zhang
and Rhese Thompson from UNC-Chapel Hill, for providing lab space, resources, and guidance. Your mentorship and instruction helped us further develop our research and understanding of the fluoride riboswitch.
Thank you to the Achievers Grant from the Public School Foundation for providing us with monetary support to help us register the team and attend the Giant Jamboree!
Thank you to Ms.Patricia Berge
from East Chapel Hill High, for serving as our team advisor, coming with us to Boston, and helping us work through the logistics of iGEM.
Thank you to Dr.Joseph Harrison
for his continued help and guidance in our project. Dr. Harrison also served as a mentor for the 2016-2017 East Chapel Hill team, and despite his relocation to California, continued to give our team invaluable advice.
Lastly, thank you to the 2016-2017 East Chapel Hill iGem Team and 2017-2018 East Chapel Hill iGem Team
as our project was built off the work that they previously did.
