Parts Overview

Overview

For this project, we split the parts criterium between three teams: Characterization, Creation, and Improvement. For Bronze, we characterized a set of 5 promoters in order to detect RNA presence via RT-PCR rather than protein abundance via fluorescence. With the Silver team, we created a new part to express MAFFS so we could use it in our experiment. Lastly, the Gold team modified part created a killswitch by modifying a previous part. in order for the xylose presence to release antitoxin as opposed to toxin.

Use in Project

When it comes to the repopulation of bacterium in the human gut's microbiome, the silver and gold parts were invaluable. Using the expression properties of the silver part to make sure the MAFFs are quickly replaced following the use of antibiotics, as well as the gold part to keep the bacteria contained.
