Twist Bioscience
FREE DNA FOR ALL TEAMS
Twist Bioscience will offer every team complimentary 10 kb of Gene Fragments* during the 2019 competition.
* Non-clonal Gene Fragments synthesized up to 1.8 kb length, total length for all fragments up to 10 kb
Make sure you get your DNA for free! In this inaugural 2019 program, Twist Bioscience will work directly with iGEM to fulfil your gene fragment orders. Here are some important notes to keep in mind when ordering your DNA:
To ensure Twist Bioscience can synthesize your sequences, it is essential that you first check and optimize your sequences on Twist Bioscience’s online ordering platform. This tool analyzes your sequences and will highlight any potential issues. Follow the detailed instructions below to check whether your sequences are ready for synthesis.
When ready, email your sequences to twist-pilot@igem.org.
To ensure your DNA reaches you, name your sequences in the following format:
[team_name]_[unique_se
quence_name].
Remember, do not submit your sequences directly to Twist Bioscience. Instead, send the sequences you would like to order to twist-pilot@igem.org.
If you have trouble with your sequences at any point, click on the chat icon in our online ordering platform to speak with our support team. Let them know you’re participating in iGEM, and we will be happy to help.

Step 2:
On the “What Can Twist Build For You?” page, select “Genes”. Name your project and click “Start New Project”. On the next page click “Continue” to get started.
Step 3:
Select “Nucleotide Sequence” and “Manual Import” to go to the sequence input screen or upload your sequences directly.
Step 4:
Paste in your sequences and click “Continue” to upload them into the sequence checking tool. The tool will begin analyzing your sequences immediately.
Step 5:
If your sequences show a green circle, they are ready to go - skip to Step 7. If they show a black circle, there is an issue - proceed to Step 6.
Step 6:
Optimize your sequences with our sequence optimization tool. Contact the Twist Support Team, or click the link to the chat box on our online ordering platform if you have questions about the sequence optimization process. Make sure to tell us you are participating in iGEM so we can offer the best possible support.
Step 7:
Once you have optimized your sequences, save them to update your sequence list
Step 8:
Select all of your sequences and click “export table”.
Step 9:
Send this CSV file to twist-pilot@igem.org.
REMEMBER: DON’T CLICK CHECKOUT or you will not be able to access your free gene fragments.

TWIST IS TRANSFORMING THE SAMPLE SUBMISSION PROCESS
This year iGEM is partnering with Twist Bioscience so teams no longer need to send physical DNA samples to the Registry. Instead, teams will submit their sequences and accompanying data and Twist will handle the synthesis of your submitted parts.
To learn more, visit iGEM’s sample submission page.
At Twist Bioscience, we work in service of customers who are changing the world for the better. In fields such as medicine, agriculture, industrial chemicals and data storage, by using our synthetic DNA tools, our customers are developing ways to better lives and improve the sustainability of the planet.
