INTEGRATED HUMAN PRACTICES

In response to the serious dangers of hypertension and weak patient awareness, we have interacted with all possible communities that are directly and indirectly affected by hypertension and will affect our programs.
We sought to gain insight into each stakeholder's awareness of hypertension prevention and their comments, appreciation, suggestions to improve our programs. We collect their opinions on the ideals of antihypertensive products. We are eager to make as many improvements as possible in our projects so that our products can be accepted and recognized like ordinary food.

  • REASONABLE DESIGN
Fascinating results depend on scientific design
    Professor Dai
The researcher of the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, research interests in synthetic genomics and synthetic biology.
The Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences
    ● Motivation
At the beginning of the project, we are confused about the rationality of the design of our genetic circuits. After brainstorming, we launched a heated discussion. However, it is always impossible to confirm the direction of our project due to different opinions. In order to determine the scientific nature of our design, we consulted Professor Dai of the Advanced Research Institute.
    ● Acquisition
He fully analyzed the feasibility and rationality of our project and believed that the genetic circuit we designed is feasible. This strengthens our confidence. At the same time, he also encourages us to actively innovate, rather than insist on other people's research.
    ● Improvement
After listening to his valuable opinions, we finally determined our research direction to develop Antihypertensive probiotics.
    DESIGN ANTIHYPERTENSIVE PEPTIDE
More active antihypertensive peptides directly affect our products.
    Dr. Yang
Visiting expert at the Advanced Research Institute, specializing in the structure and function of proteins.
The Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences
    ● Motivation
With the in-depth study of antihypertensive peptides by many scholars, a database containing more than 3,000 peptides has been formed. Of course, we can select high-activity antihypertensive peptides from the database for further study. However, we are eager to get higher activity antihypertensive peptides to make our project more meaningful. Therefore, we learned from Dr. Yang how to use the structure-effect relationship of antihypertensive peptides to design new antihypertensive peptides using protein structure fingerprint technology.
    ● Acquisition
Dr. Yang explained the principle of designing new antihypertensive peptides. In addition, he also told us the issues to be aware of when designing new peptides. And he kindly allowed us to visit his personal website on protein structure fingerprinting technology, which made it possible to design new high-activity antihypertensive peptides.
    ● Improvement
We designed 10 hypotensive peptides using protein structure fingerprints, 6 of which have hypotensive activity. In addition, we designed KYLCY to be more active than any of the current databases. This paved the way for our subsequent development products.
  • Clinical status
Only a deeper understanding of high blood pressure can better control it.
    Dr. Fu
Director of Cardio-cerebral Vascular Medicine, has been engaged in clinical treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases for more than 20 years.
    ● Motivation
What is the clinical situation of hypertension? How is hypertension currently treated? Why is the current state of hypertension so serious? Only when these problems are scientifically explained can our design be more reasonable.
    ● Acquisition
We are aware of the following:
●Some patients have severe hypertension complications at the initial visit.
●Compliance with hypertension is far below the world average, less than 30% of patients taking drugs, and less than 15% of regular follow-up.
●China's severe form of hypertension is mainly related to the weak public health awareness.
    ● Improvement
We are concerned with drugs such as ACE inhibitors and the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS). Based on the shortcomings of ACE inhibitors and the mechanism of RAAS, we chose food-borne antihypertensive peptides to better achieve blood pressure lowering.
    Scientific prevention
The bit of life is vital to health.
    Dr. Chen
Director of Cardiovascular Department of Shenzhen Second People's Hospital, engaged in clinical medical work for 17 years, with rich clinical experience
    ● Motivation
For the public, preventing hypertension is cheaper. But how to prevent it is a problem. Numerous prevention methods are easy to confuse the general public. Also, are all the methods effective? It is also very important that, the promotion of functional foods in China often misleads consumers.
    ● Acquisition
He advocates the prevention of high blood pressure through various aspects of "body and mind" in daily life. Specifically, everyone should be:
    ● Keep your mood comfortable and happy, don't worry and be nervous.
    ● Develop healthy eating habits such as low-salt diets.
    ● Proper exercise.
    ● Form a good working habits.
    ● Functional foods are not a substitute for medicines! Hypertensive patients should follow the doctor's advice and timely treatment.
    ● Improvement
Through this conversation, we know that the simultaneous prevention of both mental and physical aspects is effective in preventing hypertension in daily life. And also consumers need the right guidance, especially for middle-aged and elderly people with high blood pressure. They are easily misled by advertisements and give up taking medicine. This reminds us that we should pay attention to the correct guidance to consumers in the later publicity.
    HYPERTENSION IN THE COUNTRYSIDE
There is a huge difference between urban and rural areas about hypertension
    Dr. Li
Associate Dean of Township Health Station, has long been engaged in the treatment of hypertension in the countryside
    ● Motivation
The prevalence of hypertension in rural areas is significantly higher than in cities. It is reasonable to say that the prevalence of hypertension in rural areas should be lower than in urban areas. Why is the opposite?
    ● Acquisition
She believes that rural residents are less aware of the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases than cities. Locally, the high prevalence of hypertension has a lot to do with high-salt diets. Although the local health station holds several high-tech science lectures, establish health records, and free clinics every year, it seems that the effect is not obvious. As for our project, if you can prevent high blood pressure by eating some kind of food, it is very meaningful, she thinks. At the same time, she also suggested that we should pay attention to the amount of food consumed each time and reduce the cost as much as possible.
    ● Improvement
After understanding the basic situation of the village, we carried out a series of activities such as free clinics, publicity into each household, and the issuance of popular science leaflets to improve the public's health literacy.
  • HOW TO INVESTIGATE?
Social research must follow scientific methods
    Dr. Wang
Associate Professor, School of Humanities, Shenzhen Polytechnic College.
    ● Motivation
Social surveys must follow the methods of social research. Since we are not very familiar with this field, we had a seminar with Dr. Wang to learn how to design a questionnaire.
    ● Acquisition
Through communication, she told us how to conduct social research and issues that need attention. Point out the problems in the questionnaire we originally designed, and design the questionnaire with us on the spot.
    ● Improvement
We designed a questionnaire based on our project.
    SOCIAL SURVEY
Listen to public feedback and speak with data
    ● Basic Information
Research purposes: residents' perception of high blood pressure and their views on our project
Research method: Randomly fill in the questionnaire
The number of participants:A total of 532 people, including 224 males and 308 females
Age distribution: 132 people under 20 years old, 208 people aged 20-39, 110 people aged 40-59, 82 people over 60 years old
Raw data: Please click to download the original data and questionnaire.
    ● Survey results
Which antihypertensive probiotics are more acceptable? (multiple choice)
For our antihypertensive probiotics, 87% choose yogurt, 32% choose probiotic oral solution, and 31% choose probiotic powder, but only 10% choose synbiotics.
What are the following living habits? (multiple choices)
As for living habits, 66% have the habit of staying up late, 60% lack of physical activity, 41% have excessive intake of fat and junk food, and 40% lack intake of fruits and vegetables.
  • A HYPERTENSIVE PATIENT
The owner of the store, suffering from high blood pressure for more than ten years
    ● Motivation
Hypertensive patients are a group directly related to us. What are their views on our project? What are they looking forward to? Therefore, we interviewed two hypertensive patients to listen to their voices.
    ● Acquisition
We learned that they prefer capsules because of convenience. Antihypertensive yoghurt can also be accepted by them and they have the habit of drinking yogurt every day.
    ● Improvement
In real life, they have the habit of drinking yogurt every day. It is possible to ferment the antihypertensive probiotics into yogurt, which is more beneficial for patients to eat.
  • ACADEMY OF METROLOGY & QUALITY INSPECTION
    Mr. Zhang
Director of Academy of Metrology & Quality Inspection
    ● Motivation
As a responsible researcher, we must ensure that unnecessary security issues are minimized. We should listen to feedback from different people on our projects. We have had a discussion with Director Zhang about the security issues that may arise in our projects, how to avoid them, and so on.
    ● Acquisition
He has shown great interest in our projects and considers it to be a very meaningful project that will benefit many people with high blood pressure or normal people. First of all, he suggested that we should fully verify our products to ensure that it has a blood pressure lowering effect. Then use the strains in the "List of strains that can be used in food." In addition, its safety should be evaluated. Finally, it can only be sold in the market if you get approval through the application process.
    ● Improvement
We chose lactic acid bacteria as the chassis. And the efficacy of blood pressure lowering was evaluated by measuring in vitro activity. We will continue to fully evaluate his safety in the future. We also solemnly promise to use only laboratory research to prevent bio-contamination without obtaining government approval.
CENTER FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION
    Director Lu
Director of Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Shenzhen
    ● Motivation
Hypertension has become a worldwide health problem, which has drawn the attention of all sectors of society. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is a government department related to hypertension management, and it is very important for us to understand how the government manages it. Therefore, we interviewed Director Lu of the CDC on how to intervene in hypertension.
    ● Acquisition
In China, the government has documented hypertension and followed up regularly. She believes that the management of hypertension should be managed at the individual and social levels. At the individual level, it is necessary to improve poor dietary habits. Hypertensive patients should measure blood pressure every day and follow the doctor's advice. At the social level, only when the public's health literacy is improved can we radically reduce high blood pressure.
    ● Improvement
Through conversation we realize that the fundamental problem is to improve the public's health literacy. It is very important to popularize health knowledge. We use social media to popularize health knowledge online while hosting lectures, free clinic and Making flyers offline. You can learn more details on the Engagement & Education page
    ADMINISTRATION FOR MARKET REGULATION
    ● Motivation
Our goal is to develop a food-based antihypertensive probiotic product that is on the market. The Administration for Market Regulation is the government machine that manages this part. We must meet all the requirements of governments. We consulted some details of our project by email.
    ● Acquisition
Genetically modified products must comply with the relevant provisions of the Food Safety Law and the Regulations on the Safety Management of Agricultural Genetically Modified Organisms (Revised 2017), they reply. In addition, it should comply with relevant laws and regulations of functional foods.
    ● Improvement
We read the relevant laws and regulations to improve our products, such as we use probiotics instead of E. coli.
  • INDUSTRIALIZATION
Entrepreneur's visual review of our projects
    Mr. Yu
    General manager of genebiohealth
    ● Motivation
All our efforts are for our products to be sold in the market to benefit more people. How do companies view their products from their perspective? We are eager to get some advice from him.
    ● Acquisition
During our conversation with Mr. Yu, our project successfully aroused his interest. He believes that our products have a broad market and industrialization is achievable. At the same time, he suggested that we should pay attention to the protection of intellectual property rights, otherwise it will easily lead to the loss of technology. Production cost is also one of the most concerned issues for companies. He suggested reducing costs by optimizing the process and using domestic raw materials instead of imported raw materials.
    ● Improvement
We will apply for patents in the future to protect our intellectual property. In addition, optimization of the fermentation process will be carried out to reduce costs.
