City

We are all students of the University of Poitiers, in France. Poitiers, nicknamed the city with the hundred steeples, is a city located in the department of Vienne and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region. It includes a large number of monuments such as the baptistery Saint-Jean, the Cathedral Saint-Pierre or the church Notre Dame La Grande. With more than 29,000 students, Poitiers is a great university city since the creation of its University in 1431. Our city is mainly known for Futuroscope which is a leisure park created in 1987, 10 km from the city center. It is a theme park technological, scientific, anticipatory and fun, whose attractions mix sensory approaches and projections of images. This is one of the most popular French leisure parks as it welcomed 2 million visitors in 2017.

University of Poitiers

Founded in 1431, the University of Poitiers (https://www.univ-poitiers.fr/) is one of the oldest universities in Europe with:

• 28,000 students including 4,000 international students of 122 nationalities and 1,000 doctoral students
• 3,000 staff including 1,400 teacher-researchers and teachers 1,600 administrative and technical staff.

The university is multidisciplinary with 7 faculties, 5 institutes and 2 schools. It also contributes to make Poitiers the city with the highest student/habitant ratio in France. Trainings systematically benefit from scientific and material support from research laboratories. In particular, each mention of master is associated with several laboratories of the University of Poitiers, which fall under the field of Science and Technology. This relies on the skills of 350 researchers and university lecturer and researchers, 250 technical staff and prepares 270 PhD students, within the framework of 4 Doctoral Schools.

Laboratory

We realized the iGEM project in a microbiology laboratory that was unoccupied for several years within the association Valagro Research. We started to restore the laboratory. Then we installed devices and consumables to carry out our experiments.
his laboratory already included devices such as a microbiological safety station, an incubator and an oven. Being outside of the University, we were thus in autonomy and had a certain freedom of action for our managerial and scientific plannings.
Our presence in the laboratories of the association Valagro Recherche has also allowed us to have access to chemical consultants on a regular basis to help us in our work.
