ATTRIBUTIONS

IGEM Montpellier 2019 calendar:

Centre de biochimie Structurale (CBS): We are very thankful to the “Centre de Biochimie Structurale” (CNRS UMR 5048 - UM - INSERM U 1054) and all the researchers working there for hosting us all summer and thus providing: the work space, lab equipment, basic supplies and instruments.

Principal instructors:

Jerome Bonnet: He is the team leader of the synthetic biology team at the “Centre de Biochimie Structurale” (CBS) of Montpellier. Thanks to him (and his team who hosted us at the CBS), we were able to bring our project to life experimentally. He helped us a lot with weekly meetings and on the design of our project. He made us surpass ourselves.

Christine Doucet: She is a member of the structure and dynamics of nucleoprotein and membrane assemblies team at the Centre de Biochimie Structurale of Montpellier. She helped us a lot on the project, both in psychological support and in time by staying with us late at night to allow us to progress.

Guillaume Cambray: He is a part of the diversity, genome interactions between microorganisms and insects team at “Institut National de Recherche en Agronomie” of Montpellier. He helped us a lot on the design of the constructs and taught us how to clone by golden gate. He also spent a lot of time with us at the bench to share his expertise in molecular biology.

Luca Ciandrini: Lecturer at the CBS, he organized the bootcamp at the very beginning of the iGEM season which allowed us to do team building and training very early, he followed all our meetings and helped a lot on the modelling part of the project.

They have particularly guided and supported us throughout the development of our project.

Team members:

Clara: At first she worked at the lab for the first experiments, then she was part on the "Escape game" project of our Human Practices and to help for the carascience. She worked on the fundraising too.

Elsa K: She was a part of the lab team at the beginning. Then, she participated a lot on the communication part and also on the Human Practices, especially on the « Escape game » side project. She also managed the communication on Instagram.

Florian: He worked on the modelling part and on the art collaboration with Nantes, as well and on the ecological project we did. He was also in charge of the budget of the team and did a lot of fundraising.

Geisler: He mainly worked on the first plate reader experiments to try KARMA at the lab and was part of the lab team.

Jocelyn: He helped the survival of KARMA when we had 1 project out of 5 to choose. At the lab he focused on making competent cells and keeping an eye on the stock so that we know what we had to restock, he was a part of the communication team for twitter and the manager of the wiki.

Joey: He was part of the science team of the lab, he worked a lot on the conception and realisation of the project as the root of the project came from him. He focused on the “cloning KARMA and plate reading of the clones” part of the lab and on the analysis of the results; he was a part of the communication team for twitter and worked on the wiki too.

Kristi: He helped the survival of KARMA when we had 1 project out of 5 to choose. At the lab he mainly worked on the first plate reader experiments to try KARMA at the lab with Geisler.

Lesly: She was part of our lab team and performed the Gibson Assembly experiments. She focused on the cloning and production of all the constructs required to make our complete proof of concept.

Loucif: He was part of the modelling team. He helped with the Wiki design and coding and worked mainly on the modelling part.

Margaux: She was the team manager and did all the administration stuff to keep us on the deadlines; she worked on the safety and judging form, mainly participated in the Human Practices side of the project, like locations for the carascience and the approvals from the town hall, she helped on the lab too.

Maria: She worked on human practices and art collaboration with Nantes. She was in charge of our ecological project and survey, she also worked on the Science festival exposition.

Nadine and Salomé: They mainly participated in the Human Practices side of the project: locations for the carascience and the approvals from the town halls, they did some lab work and helped for some design.

Thomas B.: He was our lab manager. He made all the constructions with the help of the PI and team members. After that, he focused mainly on primers for Gibson, primers for sequencing, primers for PCR,… so that we could have a working KARMA, he did a lot of lab work too. He was also our driver for the Carascience and animated our exhibition at the Science Festival.

Thomas Pesnel: He is currently undergoing web design training and has worked with us on the design of the wiki, he coded and did the graphics of the wiki. His help was invaluable and allowed us to focus on filling out the wiki while he worked on the coding. Here you can see his work.

Instructors:

Ana Zuniga was of general support for the project, advised us for the lab and experimental protocols. She particularly helped us with the design of our primers and experiments in the lab.

Hung-Ju Chang was of general support for the project, he especially advised us for the design of our construct. He also helped us on the protease assay and he gave us the SSRA-sfGFP construction and the TEV-MBP to test our KARMA tool. He also helped us a lot on the design of the experiments.

Peter Voyvodic helped us on many aspects especially for sequencing, primer order, and experiments in the lab.

All three have been indispensable to our team by helping us a lot and giving us their time. Thanks to them we could stay late at the lab so thank you very much again!

Advisors:

Elsa Fristot: M2 student, she participated to iGEM Montpellier 2018 as a member, her presence as an advisor to our team was therefore essential to keep us on the right track and keep in mind the essential things for the competition. She has been of great help to us in and out of the lab. She also helped us with the graphism and fundraising.

Laura Casas Ferrer: PhD candidate in physics of soft matter at the “Laboratoire Charles Coulomb, Université de Montpellier”. She was of very good advice on the modelling part of our tool.

Pauline Mayonove: Helped us on organizing the lab, she made the orders, explained how to work at the lab and helped us on many protocols and how to carry them out. She is in charge of the team's stock for the upcoming year.

Other:

Andrea Parmeggiani: Researcher in Theoretical Physics of Biological Systems at the University of Montpellier. We are grateful to him for the critical thoughts he brought to the project and fruitful discussions and advice that he has shared with our modelling team.

Anna-Sophie Fiston-Lavier: She is a professor at the “Université de Montpellier” who accompanied us to the Bootcamp to help us in the first phase of the project.

Boris Chenaud: Creator of the carascience, he is a physics researcher at the University of Montpellier. He graciously lent us the carascience for three months, which allowed us to carry out our project of a scientific mediation tour.

Boubou Diagouraga: Post-doctoral researcher at the Structural Biochemistry Center, kindly lent us antibodies and helped us in the realization of our Western Blot.

Florence Galtier: We met her to discuss about the health facility project, which unfortunately has not yet been launched.

Jake Wintermute: He came especially for us during the Bootcamp to introduce us to iGEM and give us some advice at the beginning of the competition.

Karine de Guillen: She is the Health and Safety Manager of our laboratory. She helped us with the human practice part of our project by giving us information on waste treatment at the “Centre de Biochimie Structurale”.

Marie-Alix Poul: Professor of Immunology and Cancer Expert, we spoke with her at the very beginning of our project she helped us learn how to effectively direct our bibliographic research for KARMA.

Nathalie Declerck: Researcher at the CBS, she worked with us on mediation projects, including the escape game project we did with her. She also helped us find places for the Carascience Tour by sending us to the “Festival Terre de Rencontre” in Lézan.

Pierre Martineaux: A cancer researcher at the IRCM, helped us to make significant progress when the idea was still a newborn little baby, mainly on the structure and the applications of our tool. Talking to him was very fulfilling, and allowed us to learn more about the possibilities of action of our tool on cancer cells.
