"Let it grow.
Let it grow.
Can't hold it back
anymore."

Project at a glance.

At optimal conditions, cells are able to fold their own proteins near perfectly. Under the same conditions, recombinant proteins generally fold well, but larger proteins tend to misfold.

To reduce misfolding, the temperature is lowered but this leads to a decrease in the biomass of the cell, thereby a net decrease in protein quantity.

If we further shift the temperature to an extreme, the cells stop producing or start misfolding these proteins.

Thus, our project this year, aims at increasing the amount of proteins produced at sub-optimal temperatures without compromising the biomass of the cells.
