Solving Hong Kong's food waste problem: synthetic biology and robotics integrated approach

The Hong Kong Government has built infrastructures to tackle the food waste problem in the city last year. However, we noticed that those facilities are only built to solve the industrial but domestic food waste problem. Seeing how low effectiveness the infrastructure has to tackle food waste issue in Hong Kong, we wonder if there other approaches to solve the problem at home. We thought we could use simple engineering technology and synthetic biology findings, so we designed composite parts to digest amylase, lipase and produce a more pleasant smell during the process. Together with the BioBricks, we have designed a food waste conversion machine to allow us to make use of the BioBricks in a smaller scale and faster pace.
